The Season of Change

Ahhh, the ushering in of fall; the season of change. As I watch the leaves turn from green to brilliant oranges and reds, I can’t help but reflect on the wonderful changes that have happened in my life over the last fifteen years. Fall, with its crisp air and vibrant colors, feels like a perfect metaphor for transformation. It’s a time of release, renewal, and growth—if we choose to embrace it.

Recognizing the Need for Change

For much of my life, I resisted change without even realizing it. Subconsciously, I held myself back. It felt normal to suppress tears, to stifle the urge to express myself verbally, or to avoid showing emotion altogether. What I didn’t understand then was that I wasn’t just holding back my feelings—I was holding back my humanity. By denying my emotions, I was snuffing out my soul.

This resistance to change didn’t serve me, but I couldn’t see a way out. I thought that keeping my emotions bottled up was a sign of strength. In reality, it was a barrier that kept me stuck, unable to grow or connect deeply with myself and others. Change was knocking on my door, but I refused to answer.

The Catalyst for Transformation

It wasn’t until I met someone I now refer to as an angel that my perspective began to shift. Angels, in my experience, are kind souls who come into your life when you need them most, often unexpectedly. My angel was Dr. David Mehler, a network chiropractor who didn’t just focus on physical healing but also on emotional well-being.

During one of my appointments, Dr. Mehler said something that pierced through my walls of resistance: “Maggie, you’ve been coming here for weeks. If you continue to hold back and not release what is inside of you that needs to be expressed, you will keep yourself stuck and not grow.”

His words hit me like a lightning bolt. I realized I was at a crossroads. I could continue to resist and remain trapped in my old patterns, or I could embrace change and step into the unknown. At that moment, I decided it was time to let go and allow myself to feel.

The Power of Letting Go

Once I made the conscious decision to embrace change, I felt an immediate shift. It was as if a heavy weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I went from being a person controlled by unexpressed anger and fear to someone who could finally experience the full range of human emotions—both positive and negative.

This wasn’t an overnight transformation. It took time, patience, and a lot of courage to face the emotions I had buried for so long. But each step forward brought a newfound sense of freedom and authenticity. I began to understand that letting go isn’t about weakness; it’s about strength. It’s about having the courage to confront what’s inside and to release it so you can move forward.

The Lessons of Change

Looking back, I realize that embracing change has taught me some of the most valuable lessons of my life. Here are a few key takeaways:

1. Change is Inevitable, and That’s a Good Thing

The seasons remind us that change is a natural part of life. Just as the trees let go of their leaves in the fall, we, too, must let go of what no longer serves us. Resisting change only delays the inevitable and makes the process more painful. When we accept that change is a constant, we can begin to see it as an opportunity rather than a threat.

2. Expression is Healing

Holding back emotions doesn’t make them disappear; it only stores them away until they manifest in other ways, often as stress or physical ailments. I’ve learned that expressing myself—whether through words, tears, or creative outlets—is one of the most powerful forms of healing. When we release what’s inside, we create space for something new to grow.

3. Support is Essential

We don’t have to navigate change alone. Throughout my journey, I’ve been fortunate to have people like Dr. Mehler who offered guidance and encouragement. Seeking support, whether from friends, family, or professionals, can make all the difference. It’s a reminder that we are all connected and that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

4. Growth Comes from Discomfort

Change often requires stepping outside of our comfort zones. It’s not always easy, but it’s worth it. Growth doesn’t happen when we stay stagnant; it happens when we face challenges and push through them. The discomfort is temporary, but the rewards are lasting.

An Invitation to Embrace Change

Today, I’m grateful for the courage it took to embrace change and express myself more fully. The journey hasn’t been without its challenges, but it has been incredibly rewarding. I’ve discovered a deeper sense of connection with myself and others, and I’ve found a greater appreciation for the beauty of life’s seasons.

As we move through this season of change, I invite you to join me on this journey. Take a moment to reflect on the areas of your life where you might be resisting change. What emotions are you holding back? What fears are keeping you stuck? And most importantly, what could you gain by letting go?

Practical Steps to Embrace Change

If you’re ready to take the first step towards transformation, here are some practical tips to help you along the way:

1. Acknowledge Your Feelings

Start by being honest with yourself about what you’re feeling. Journaling can be a helpful tool for processing emotions and gaining clarity. Don’t judge your feelings; simply observe and accept them.

2. Find Your Support System

Identify people in your life who can support you through the process of change. This could be a trusted friend, a therapist, or a mentor. Don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for help.

3. Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness techniques, such as meditation or deep breathing, can help you stay grounded during times of change. These practices can also make it easier to let go of negative emotions and embrace the present moment.

4. Take Small Steps

Change doesn’t have to happen all at once. Start with small, manageable steps that move you in the direction you want to go. Celebrate your progress along the way.

5. Be Patient with Yourself

Remember that transformation takes time. Be kind to yourself and allow space for setbacks. Each step forward, no matter how small, is a victory.

Closing Thoughts

The season of fall reminds us that change is not only inevitable but also beautiful. Just as the trees release their leaves to prepare for new growth, we, too, can let go of what no longer serves us and make room for transformation. It’s a journey that requires courage, vulnerability, and support, but the rewards are well worth it.

As you navigate your own season of change, remember that you are not alone. There is a community of kind souls ready to support you, just as I was supported on my journey. Together, we can embrace the beauty of change and step into a brighter, more authentic future.
